I get it. Starting a business is a large undertaking, no ifs, ands or buts about it. Your attention is required in many matters at once, you’re forced to learn new systems and processes and the amount of time you spend resolving issues you have little patience for ends up overshadowing the time you want to put toward your passion. With all these unfortunately necessary distractions, you may very well forget why you started your business in the first place!
Freedom, control, passion? “Forget about it,” you might think as you ruffle through a stack of forms that all need filling out, your phone rings incessantly and you have 300 unanswered emails in your inbox. Sometimes the very same markers of success can be downright overwhelming.
Yes WE can and ..Don’t go it alone!
We console our selves by rationalizing our thoughts of despair with the rags to riches tale of the American Dream; if we just work a little harder, fill out a few more forms and answer a few more calls, everything will work out in the end. But it can be awfully hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you haven’t slept for two days, cooked a meal in a week or spent any valuable time with your loved ones for over a month. Overwhelm.
Sound familiar? Many small business owners find themselves on this path and wonder why they ever wanted to start a business in the first place. It’s easy to get caught up in the minutiae and lose all faith and confidence.
Fact: Negative emotions breed negative actions. No one wants negativity to seep into the blood of your business.
Confidence is currency in small business. Without it, you’ll find it hard to make it past your morning coffee. There is truth in the statement, “Where energy flows, money goes.” For example, imagine you are spending all your energy on administrative matters at the expense of your core service offering. You’ll get really great at administration and not so great at offering your service to clients. As a result, you won’t find many happy customers and revenue will become stagnant. No need for administrative duties when you have no clients! Negativity is likely to creep in as you resent the lack of clients and resulting lack of money.
The opposite can be just as true. Say you’re a super seller and have a keen sense for finding new business. Great. But you also have to deliver. If you spend all your time on new business and no time on customer retention, your clients (and money) won’t stick around. But, if you spend a good amount of time offering a stellar product/service, everyone will want a piece of what you’ve got. As a result, you’ll have plenty of clients and the money will follow. When you lead with confidence, you’ll find abundance and happiness, which naturally will breed more abundance and happiness.
Yet, there is an inherent level of faith required of small business owners, and it’s often hard to muster. Truth is, starting a business is a gigantic risk and confidence naturally starts to waver when risk is thrown into the mix. It is very likely you will fail – recent statistics show that only 51% of businesses survive for 5 years or longer. You’re bound to make mistakes and you’ll definitely be put in situations where you have no idea what you’re doing. That can be scary for people who like to maintain control. Truly believing in your ability to survive and knowing you have everything you need to make things work will help you get through those inevitable situations that throw so many of us for a loop.
Align with what’s right with you and Thrive!
What if you could clear out those negative beliefs for good? Receive the support you need, while at the same time working through all your fears and perceived shortcomings? What if you could shove out everything that is preventing you from moving forward to create the successful business of your dreams?
Is it time to shift your energy to pursuits that will actually make you the money that you deserve? Are you ready to remind yourself that you have everything you need to move forward and succeed?
